Child and Young Person Psychology

The Child and Young People’s Psychology Service accepts referrals from all Practices within the Motherwell, Bellshill and Viewpark areas of North Lanarkshire. Referrals should be made in writing either by completing the attached form or by a letter from the referrer. The service covers the age range from 0 to 17 years.

Child and Young People Psychology Referral

This is not a clinical service but advice and support is provided by a Chartered Educational Psychologist.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak all consultations will take place online using secure video conferencing at a time that suits the child/young person / family. When making a referral please provide a telephone number of the parent/carer and advise them that they will be contacted by the Psychologist to arrange an online appointment. An e-mail address will be required to arrange the secure videoconference via a smartphone, tablet or home computer.

This is a Tier 2 service and reasons for referrals can be:

-Management of behaviour in pre-school and school age children;

-Advice on enuresis and encopresis where there is no medical problem;

-Advice to parents /carers on managing sleep;

-Anger and confrontation management;

-Managing anxiety and stress in young people where there is no clinical condition;

-Advice on supporting children and young people with a range of developmental disorders such as Dyslexia, DCD, ASD, ADHD.

Young people presenting with significant self-harm or suicidal ideation are not suitable for this service and should be referred to CAMHS.

Referrers will receive confirmation in writing of receipt of referral. Once the referral has been concluded the referrer will receive a notification of discharge or a report as required.
